Guest Blog: Style The Nursery For Autumn - by From Day Dot

It’s here! Autumn has finally, officially arrived and I, for one, couldn’t be happier about it.

Yes, I’m part of the Pumpkin Spiced Latte crew and head of the crunchy leaf appreciation club. I just love Autumn (but only on a cold and sunny day, don’t give me wind and rain to ruin my vibe). Autumn is all about nature, the changing of the seasons and all the colours, sights and smells that it brings with it. It feels fresh and cosy all at once, and the chill in the air is the perfect excuse for an unnecessary amount of fairy lights and blankets, and spending time in my favourite place in the world. Home.

Bringing an Autumn feel into the home is simple to do with just a few accessories. It’s all about layers, textures, rich colours and bringing nature indoors (take that as literally as you like, I mean who doesn’t want to make a candle holder out of a tree branch?!)

The little ones don’t need to miss out on the excitement either, you can bring them along for the ride with some simple updates to their bedroom and additions to their toy collections.

Wall stickers are the way forward in nursery décor these days thanks to their versatility. Children change their mind quicker than they grow out of shoes (shockingly quick, it’s something I just wasn’t prepared for) and so committing to a wallpaper or bold colour scheme is a risky business. Wall stickers allow you to play designer, bringing fun and life to their room, but also give you the flexibility to chop and change at your leisure.

These Tree POM Wall Stickers are my number one Autumn-friendly update, especially in black so you can achieve that oh-so-popular Nordic vibe, and as they can be easily repositioned and removed you can get your little one involved and have fun playing with layouts.

I mentioned how Autumn was all about colours and textures, and it’s the softer, the cosier, the warmer, the better. While soft furnishings are essential for a seasonal update, you’d be surprised at the impact a little touch, such as this The Bear & The Bird Mr Moon Embroidery Hoop, can have on a room. It’s all down to that soft textured fabric and the rich mustard pom pom. Don’t you just feel instantly relaxed by looking at his little peaceful smiling face?

New to Style The Nursery is super brand Olli Ella, and just in time for all the Autumn fun is the favourite Luggy Basket. Fairtrade and handmade, the natural woven basket is just big enough for them to store and tote their prized possessions, and is perfect for collecting conkers and pine cones when you go for an Autumn walk in the woods. They. When they go walking in the woods. It’s for the kids, not you.

If there’s one thing which is symbolic for Autumn, it just has to be the leaf. It’s what it’s all about, leaves falling from the trees, crunchy leaves on the ground… nothing says Autumn quite like a leaf! So this Blossom & Bear Oak Leaf Teething Rattle is my final pick for an Autumn update. BPA free silicone beads wrapped around a natural beech wood leaf which has been polished with organic coconut oil and beeswax balm (so no nasties). It may be little, but oh my it’s special.

So tell us, how do you like to update your home for the Autumn? Do you have any special additions for the nursery?
